I did another digital painting! I kind of like this one, completed it over a span of 4 days, working on it for about 6 hours in total. I'm sorry if it looks a little weird, I painted this without reference. I started working on this because of a sudden urge to paint lips, then I thought to myself, why not paint an entire portrait? I started off making a few sketches traditionally on ye old sketchbook before moving on to photoshop.
One thing I wanted to try out on this painting, was to be able to create this digital painting without line art in the end product. If you didn't already know, my previous paintings looking freaking hilarious with the line art layer turned off.
So here's a (not so detailed) description of how this painting was completed:

Started of with another sketch in photoshop after having sketched traditionally in my sketchbook.

I then blocked out the skin and hair colours, then moved on to adding lighter and darker tones to the skin colour.
I spent quite a lot of time on the hand, somehow it still doesn't seem quite right.

Took a break for a day and then came back to paint the hair with my custom brush. If you're wondering what the custom brush looked like, it's just a brush with 5 dots randomly placed. I'm quite happy with how the hair turned out.

Next I blocked out the colour for the girl's clothes. Chose blue initially, but then changed it to green.

After blocking out the colour, I went on to add tones to the fabric, took me a while to do this. I was getting really tired and I think I got sloppy towards the end.
FINALLY...

I changed the shirt back to blue, but this time of a lighter shade (it just seemed more appealing this way). Added a simple background texture and the signature and VOILA! I'm done! Anyone wants to help add some graffiti in the background? I'll credit you. (:

Went down to the last kampong in Singapore, somewhere in Yio Chu Kang, last Saturday with Ryan, Ming Hui, and Lun Tat. The place was great if not for the excessive amounts of annoying insects, I had my shoe infested with ants just trying to snap a picture. We snapped away in the kampong and explored its surrounding forested areas, after which we took a bus down to Jalan Kayu for lunch.
In the afternoon, we made an impromptu trip to the red house. Sad to say, it was entirely fenced and barb wired. Didn't manage to get any pictures of the interior, we'll be going back again though, this time with a plan.
Anyway, that so ends my shooting trip for the day, here are the photos:

That tiny hole in the door actually brought about quite a number of good shots for the guys, the good stuff's inside.

This was the photo that caused the ant infestation. I had to run off and flick off all the ants that were biting at my leg before going back to get another shot.

I like this one, I especially like how the light from the opening of the foliage falls nicely on the plant.

A random shot, we were already leaving the kampong.

Taken at some stairs leading to shell station. Seriously, plants can grow anywhere.
More photos!
All those were photos I uploaded to deviantArt. Here are some more photos I took:

ATTENTION!
Look Here:

Believe it or not, this photo (above) is HDRI. I know it doesn't really look like it but hey, it's my first try at HDR.
Here are some pictures of the guys. Ryan's kit was awesome! And Lun Tat had some weird shooting styles. Ming Hui is a fellow Nikon user, Nikon FTW! Can't wait to go for the next shoot.

Do comment on the photos, thanks. (:

I just finished my first COMPLETE digital painting. Didn't really turn out as I would have liked it to but oh well, we all start somewhere. I really had a hard time trying to blend the colours, seriously, how do people do it? I bet there's some secret way or something, I just have to keep trying till I find it. Oh, and the hair was the absolute killer. It was damn tedious, I cannot remember how many times I changed it.
Anyway, about this painting: it's supposed to be Kristen Stewart. She's from the movie Adventureland, from the directors of Superbad. The show's awesome, all of you should really watch it, watch it with your significant other or something (hint hint).
I'm going to post my process for this piece, it's been a long time since i've done so.

First I started off with a sketch. Just a rough outline, and some lines to mark out the dark areas of the face.

After that, I blocked out the colours and started detailing the face.

After I was more or less happy with how the face looked, I moved on to colouring the hair. Honestly, the hair was my worst nightmare. Somehow, when I was halfway through the hair, I had a feeling that my painting no longer bore any resemblance to Kristen Stewart.

I changed the hair up a little, after receiving feedback that it looked a little weird, I agreed actually. This was what it looked like after I re-edited it countless times.

I actually got sooooo tired of painting the hair that I moved on to the other parts of the picture first. I did the arm first then the shirt, both of which turned out to be surprisingly easy.

Lastly, I finished up the hair and touched up the entire picture. After which I added a background image, a photo I took on the way to work. Blurred the background a little and made some changes to the painting to suit the lighting from the background image.
I'll be starting on another painting next week. Do comment on this piece though, thanks. (:

New addition to my camera bag! The Nikkor AF 85mm f/1.8D lens.
This lens is currently my walking lens, it's wide f/1.8 aperture makes it great for low light conditions, and not to mention, produces awesome bokehs.
Okay, enough advertising. Here are some photos!

The 85mm lens came with a metal screw on lens hood, I don't really use it though.

Cats and the dried plants were shot in low light conditions, the cats were shot with ISOs of around 3200.

National Day's round the corner, I have a long weekend! Hurray for Singapore.

Made it through the first week of SIP! Yesssssss! I got Friday off, which is really great since there isn't any real work to do in the office anyway.
Went to Clarke Quay for dinner with the rest of the MOI people on my day of and guess what? The clouds sucked! Wanted to try taking some HDR
photos but since the clouds were so uncooperative, I took a panoramic shot instead.
Things to note:
- next time, use a tripod.

My SIP company's going to revert back to the 5 day work week starting next week. Hopefully business picks up by then. :/

My first time shooting at a studio, had lots of fun and really learned a lot. The guy there was really friendly and explained how the place works and gave tips on how to shoot proper studio photos.
And know what? He's a Nikon user too, has been for over 20 years. Hurray for Nikon!
We were fooling around when i shot this. Fraternizing with the enemy. haha. NYP ftw!
P.S.
I just realized that when i increase the size of the thumbnail the picture becomes pixelated, so please click on the thumbnails to view the UNpixelated full resolution pictures. (:

Just finished a module on character design. My character's supposed to be a fairy kind of creature, much like those in the fairly odd parents. Basically, he roams the design school and finishes any work that has not been completed and is left alone. However, works might not always turn out the way the original artist intended it to. Papercut boy specializes in papercut.(Wow, who'd have guessed)

The thing strapped on his back is an art knife, if you haven't already guessed.
OH, and he has 3 other friends/ team mates/ group members. They're designed by my course mates. Here's a sketch.
From left to right: Leon the Papercut Boy, Matthew the Painter Dude, Arnold the Airbrush Boy, and Ozzy the Sketcher.
Turntable video is recommended to be watched in HD. Enjoy.

Haven't been posting stuff up here in a while, i know.
But fret not! I have new stuff!
Besides, school's starting again and guess what, I have another major project smack at the start of the new semester.
On a more positive note, that'll mean more stuff for you guys to feast your eyes on (or not).
Went to take photos for camp this holiday and got to mess around with various Nikon DSLRs.
Here are some shots taken with WJ's D90.

WOOOO! frogs. frogs. frogs.
Okay, that's kind of all for now, will post more stuff when I get my stuff back from school.

I stayed up damn late/early to get this done. It was damn funny how Johannesen was so nervous in front of the camera whereas Jason only needed one take to finish his lines. The lighting in the video was damn bad, all thanks to Jojo for taking so many attempts to finally get it right. We started out before the sun set and shot all the way till sundown, all for a whopping 1:45mins worth of footage. And Jason's phone battery went flat. Well, here's the video, I was hoping to do more but Jason's dateline was today so.. no choice.
In this video:
Johannesen wishes to enlighten the world about the damage caused by the environment just by simply eating meat. Personally, we all think he's not making sense, but for the sake of the video and the assignment, we're going to give him a chance to change our minds..
Right?

The motion graphics module is already long over, and I finally found some time to upload the final product. Here it is for your viewing pleasure.
Will be uploading more stuff soon. Pre-production material for a short 3D animated story and a 2D animation project I'm helping Jason with.
